Dear Chairs,

During our next edition of TPAC [1], I would like to organize the presentation of a set of technical demos prepared and run by Working Groups, Interest Groups or Community Groups and that illustrate the work they are pursuing.

The goal of this effort is to foster cross-group pollination by making it easier for groups to understand why others are doing and their current or expected impact on the Web.

For instance, demos could show:

  • the impact of a new CSS feature,
  • what WebVR can be used for
  • how fast WebAssembly makes the Web,
  • what mitigations to API fingerprinting looks like.

The expectations are that they would illustrate a group's work, not a specific product - there will be a separate solution showcase for companies interested in showing products. But that work doesn't have to be limited to the technical content of a spec (as the fingerprinting example above tries to illustrate).

The plan would be for these demos to be shown as part of the last slot of the breakout sessions on the plenary day (Wednesday) and before the reception; a subset of these would also be shown prior to the developer meetup we are organizing on Monday night of that week.

Once the list of groups that are meeting in TPAC is finalized, I will be recontacting the relevant chairs directly on this topic; but early signals of interest and ideas of demos that could be presented are already very welcome.

Please get in touch with me if you want to discuss any of this in more details.

Thanks,

Dom
